The Arts

          The arts are explored in a variety of ways at Sequoia Elementary.  Students in all grades participate in visual art work centered on famous artists and aligned with classroom content. Over the years, students learn foundational art skills and techniques, develop their own creativity and develop an appreciation for the aesthetic. Students in grades 1st through 5th attend vocal music class. The instruction centers on a combination of musical skills - from carrying a tune to reading musical notes. Students in grade 3 learn the recorder. The instruction is aligned with classroom content and supports the learning of the California Music standards. 

          4th and 5th grade students may opt to participate in an instrumental music program.  This program provides students with a choice of instrument they wish to study.  Instruction aligns with the California Music standards and supports a global sensibility and deepens cultural understanding.
